Baker Lawn and Land – The Unexpected Beginning
Baker Lawn and Land was never supposed to happen—but it did. Our journey began in the spring of 2018 when Hayden Baker, then a sophomore at Charles Page High School, took over a friend’s neighborhood mowing customers. That friend was working a full-time job over the summer and needed someone to take on the work. Hayden stepped in, and for that first year, the idea was born.
From 2018 to 2019, it was just a summer gig before school took priority again.
A Shift in Focus
Hayden always valued work over school. He spent his weekdays working at a local diner, his weekends starting early at Oklahoma’s largest commercial gas station, and his grades inevitably suffered. With the help of his high school counselor, he transitioned to online classes, allowing him to focus more on work.
While attending online high school and working full-time at the gas station, he remembered the lawns he had mowed in previous summers. Curious to see if he could gain traction in his hometown, he started posting on local social media groups.
The response was overwhelming—it spread like wildfire.

“Here’s to a new year and new possibilities. In 2025, I plan to make this the best year yet—implementing new services and refining how day-to-day operations run.”

From Side Hustle to Business
By 2020, shortly after graduating high school, what had once been a simple summer job turned into a legitimate business opportunity. The original name, Fairy Yard Mother (for obvious reasons), was short-lived. Soon, the company was rebranded as Baker Lawn and Land.
At the height of the pandemic in the summer of 2020, the business grew from just seven recurring lawn accounts to forty-three. With this unexpected success, Hayden faced a big decision:
- Continue growing the business
- Pursue higher education
- Take the “safe” route and seek full-time employment elsewhere
Money was tight, and equipment was limited, but Hayden made it work. He chose full-time self-employment. With his father’s help (and some borrowed lawn equipment), operations expanded. Soon, lifelong friends joined in, and by early 2021, Baker Lawn and Land officially filed Articles of Organization with the state of Oklahoma.
Building a Legacy
In 2021, with a formal business in place, commercial-grade equipment was added, new services were introduced, and new team members came aboard. Baker Lawn and Land quickly became a local favorite, providing high-quality services at the best prices possible—benefiting both customers and the company’s long-term success.
In an industry where businesses come and go every year, Hayden’s plan is to stay—serving the community by employing hardworking locals and offering a helping hand whenever possible.
